My living room floor 2007…
Following temporary paralysis, I was suffering from chronic pain due to a broken back as well as nerve damage, which kept me from being able to stretch my legs out in front of me while seated. I remember trying my best to press my legs down but the intense pain was too much to bear. It was when I stopped trying that God spoke to me and said: “Press into the pain”. I then rebuked the devil for telling me to do something to hurt myself and suddenly realized it was the voice of God. I asked Him “Why Lord? Why would you want me to press into this pain it hurts so bad”? If anything, I wanted healing and deliverance from this pain! He said to me, ” I want you to do what feels most uncomfortable to you, If you want to know that you are in my will, then you have to do the opposite of what you FEEL like doing”!
This was a major challenge for me.At the time, God had just recently spoken to me about my office as a Prophetess and the ministry He would be using me for His Glory. I’m a person familiar with rejection, so saying uncomfortable things was a great challenge for me because I wanted to be liked and accepted. The Lord reminded me that we are not called to live a comfortable life here in this world, but a life that brings Glory to His Name. This is why He gave us THE COMFORTER! When we live a lifestyle that is comfy and complacent we are robbing the Holy Spirit of being what He wants and needs to be in our lives. Stepping outside the boat is uncomfortable, preaching the Gospel where it is illegal, is uncomfortable and confronting and commanding demons to leave a person is uncomfortable. At the time I thought only of how I could do the opposite of what I DIDN’T want to do. It wasn’t until today 6 years later that I asked God, what about doing the opposite of the things I do want to do, you know seemingly good things? He said to me, ” Only I know what is ultimately good and often times when man strives to do good on his own, it is for self-fulfillment and out of self-righteousness, which to me is as filthy rags. My ways are Higher than your ways and My Thoughts Higher than your thoughts. This is why I said to acknowledge me in ALL of your ways and that I would direct your paths. The “good” you plan to do could actually do harm.Live and move, in and by my Spirit”.
An example of this would be when Peter cut off Malchus, the High priests’ servants ear in trying to defend Christ( John 18:10). Sure this seemed like a good idea at the time. He loved God and wanted to try to protect his friend. This, however, was not God’s will or plan for Jesus.
John 18:11 Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?
It was necessary that Jesus be taken and crucified.
Even in the sermon on the Mount Jesus said …
43“You have heard that it was said, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR and hate your enemy.’“But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.“For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? “If you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? “Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect”.( Matthew 5:43-48)
Loving our neighbor and hating our enemy may seem right to our natural mind and our flesh, however, the God of opposites said “Love your enemies and pray for those who Persecute you”.(v.44)
This is why is so very necessary to walk in the Spirit and allow God to work through us for His Glory and not our own.
Let’s make a commitment today, not only to do the opposite of what our flesh is telling us to do, but also to do the uncomfortable thing that God may be asking us to do.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you so much for the Grace that you give us as your children. We ask that you would help us to acknowledge you in ALL that we do, even in seemingly small decisions. We ask you to help us to understand that you have already given us the Courage we need to do the things we don’t feel like doing. Lord, we also ask that you show us the good we should do, not in and of ourselves for fulfillment, but for your Glory and the other persons ultimate good in You! In Jesus name, Amen.
